Chloe Grant returned to F1 Academy action following her massive accident at the previous event by impressively posting a top-10 placing in the first race at Paul Ricard (29-30 Jul).
The Perth teenager showed incredible resilience and determination in her first event after the scary accident at Monza which saw her car fly through the air and land upside down on fire.
Chloe was a mere 0.365secs away from securing pole-position on her first-ever visit to the 2.4-mile track near Marseille in her ART Grand Prix machine. She diced for eighth place for much of Race 1 but had to be content with 10th at the chequered flag.
Grant cruelly missed out on posting another top-10 placing by less than a second in the second race before recording 13th in the final race. Her maiden F1 Academy season, which has seen Chloe up against older and more experienced single-seater drivers, concludes at Austin in Texas which supports the United States Formula 1 Grand Prix in October.
Laser Tools, Specsavers, John Clark Motor Group, Kevin Cuthbert PT, Island Leisure Lodges, and Fierce Sports Marketing are supporting Grant this season.
Chloe: “It was good to get back racing after the Monza setback and I was generally happy with my performance at Paul Ricard.
“Times in qualifying were really tight and it was nice to get in the points with 10th place in the opening race.
“I was especially happy with how I drove in Race 2, my lap times were better and were consistently faster than the four cars that finished in front of me. I got up to ninth but was pushed wide causing me to lose momentum and places.
“I stalled at the start of the final race which is the first time that has ever happened, but got my head down, and caught up with the field which was satisfying.
“There’s a break in the calendar now so I’ll be focussing on training and simulator work ahead of Austin.”
